Project Overview

The City of Peterborough launched the “Calm Streets PTBO” initiative in 2020. Through this initiative, a new Traffic Calming Policy and Toolkit were developed to guide how City staff consider requests for traffic calming measures made by residents on Local Streets, Low-capacity Collectors, and High Capacity Collectors in residential neighbourhoods within Peterborough. The Traffic Calming project also resulted in a Toolkit (or menu) of solutions that the City will consider for use in Traffic Calming projects.

Phase 2 - Project Update February 2025

Staff are finalizing their analysis of data collection at the following three pilot project locations:

  • High Street between Lansdowne Street and Sherbrooke Street
  • Highland Road between Chemong Road and Fairbairn Street
  • Sherburne Street, Morrow Street, Montgomery Street

Residents will receive a survey in the mail with the results of the study, as well as an invitation to a Public Information Center to be held prior to the survey completion. Once survey results have been finalized, a report will be delivered to City Council in the Spring of 2025 with the results of the pilot projects.

Due to the ice storm, the survey response deadline has been extended to Friday April 11, 2025.

Traffic Calming Program Update

During the Council meeting on February 3, 2025 for the adoption of the 2025 City Budget, City Council voted to temporarily suspend the Traffic Calming program. Ongoing pilot projects on High Street, Highland Road, and Sherburne Street/Morrow Street/Montgomery Street will be completed as per the Traffic Calming Policy. Traffic concerns related to vehicle speed and cut-through are still being received by staff, but no new traffic calming projects will be initiated at this time.

Thank you for your understanding.
