Consultation has concluded
The City engages with residents to gather ideas and feedback as it drafts the budget each year for City Council’s consideration.
The City consults with the community throughout the budget process – at the beginning when setting the guidelines, when the draft budget is released, and before Council considers approving the budget.
Each year, Council considers community priorities, expected service levels, and legislated responsibilities as it sets the operating and capital budgets for the City of Peterborough.
The Budget Roadshow usually includes casual drop-in-style meetings in each of the five wards of the City to give residents an opportunity to talk to Council members and City staff about their priorities for the community ahead of Council setting the guidelines for the development of the next year's draft budget. With the public health measures in place to reduce the spread of COVID-19, the Budget Roadshow went virtual this year. You'll find dates and information on how to participate in the Key Dates section on the right side of the project page as well as in the Updates section below.
A brief survey on community priorities was provided as one way for residents and businesses to provide input into the creation of the guidelines for the 2022 Budget, which were approved by Council on July 26, 2021. The budget guidelines provide direction on the creation of the draft 2022 Budget.
The Draft 2022 Budget documents were presented and posted for public review on November 1, 2022. You'll find them in the document library on this project page.
We'll continue to update this project page throughout the 2022 Budget process. Check back for updates and details on other opportunities to engage throughout the budget process.
Thank you for joining the conversation on the 2022 Budget.

This survey is now closed. We will be producing a "What We Heard" report on the results from the survey as well as the in-person consultation that will be posted for the community and provided for Council's consideration as part of the 2022 Budget process.
Note: The Budget survey closes at 9 p.m. on Thursday, April 22, 2021.
Thank you for contributing to the creation of the draft 2022 Budget.
This survey should take about 10 minutes to complete. The survey results will be reported back to the community through a report and provided to City Council for its consideration.
Each year, Council considers community priorities, expected service levels, and legislated responsibilities as it sets the operating and capital budgets for the City of Peterborough.
The process to create the budget for next year starts early in the current year with community consultation and estimating pressures and opportunities that may affect the budget for the following year. The community input and financial forecast is provided to Council before it gives direction on preparing the draft budget.
This survey is one of the ways that the City consults with the community on priorities as part of the budget process. There are also public meetings, the Budget Roadshow that has gone virtual (and by phone) this year, and online consultation tools through Connect Peterborough at connectptbo.ca. Residents also have the option of directly calling and emailing City staff and Council members.
