Draft plan consultation summary

Community feedback submitted to the City of Peterborough regarding the Bonnerworth Park project draft plan between August 8 and 21, 2024 reflected a diverse range of opinions, with significant engagement on various aspects of the plan. The comments reflect both concerns and support across different elements of the project.

The call for feedback on the draft plan indicated that the feedback would be provided to the project team for consideration to inform the finalization of the site plan ahead of issuing the tender for construction.

The draft plan provided on August 8, which was the subject of the call for feedback, was informed by technical studies and community feedback leading up to the draft plan being posted, including feedback related to green space preservation and noise concerns.

The City of Peterborough received 423 comments on the Bonnerworth Park project draft plan through Connect Peterborough, the City’s community engagement platform, and email submissions to the project email account between August 8 and 21, 2024.

The following is intended to provide a high-level summary of the comments received, identifying key themes, for public purposes. Submitted comments may include personal identifiable information. The complete comments were provided to the project team for consideration to inform the finalization of the site plan.

Highlights of comments regarding the Bonnerworth Park project include:

• Green space: This was the most frequently mentioned theme, with about 30% of comments related to the preservation, enhancement, or use of green space, trees, and nature. Residents stressed that green space contributes to the community’s quality of life.
• Ball diamonds: About 20% of the comments expressed concerns about the planned removal of the ball diamonds from the park.
• Use of funding: About 20% of the comments referenced the use of funding with suggestions to use funding for social services.
• Pickleball courts location: About 15% of comments expressed a desire to use a different location for pickleball courts.
• Noise concerns: About 15% of comments highlighted concerns about noise, disturbances, and the need to maintain quiet or reduced sound levels within the park and the neighbourhood.
• Process/community engagement: 8% of comments referenced concerns with the process or community engagement regarding the Bonnerworth Park project.
• Traffic concerns: 6% of comments raised issues related to traffic, congestion, and parking. Some comments questioned the ability to accommodate more vehicles.
• Bike pump track and skateboard park: 4% of comments expressed support for the inclusion of the bike pump track and skateboard park expansion in the project.
