Television Road Bridge Replacement
Project Background and Overview:
The Television Road bridge over Meade Creek replacement project follows the recommendations of the Television Road Bridge Replacement Environmental Study Report, completed in late 2023. This report recommended that the existing bridge be replaced by a new two lane (one in each direction) bridge. The new bridge will be constructed to the east of the existing bridge, allowing for the existing bridge to remain in service during construction.
Though the new bridge will be constructed with one lane in each direction, the configuration will allow for expansion of the new bridge to four lanes (two in each direction) in the future to accommodate increased traffic volumes if required. Both the two-lane and four-lane bridge configurations will accommodate active transportation with a sidewalk on one side and a multi-use path on the other.
In early 2024 the City proceeded with the detailed design of the new bridge, including roadworks between the rail track and Keene Rd., as well as a solution to improve traffic flow at the Keene Road/Television Road intersection.
Next Steps:
The preliminary investigations that were completed during the Environmental Assessment (EA) process have been built on through additional studies. These include environmental, archaeological, geotechnical, transportation, and hydraulics studies. Some of these studies and the investigations are still ongoing. The transportation study has recommended a south-bound left-turn-lane be installed on Television Road at Keene Road to keep through traffic flowing and allow for dedicated turning movements onto Keene Road, which is planned for implementation as part of the project.
Building in recommendations from the EA and recent studies, the new bridge will be built higher than the existing bridge to allow for the passage of flood water without compromising the new bridge. The project will feature a retaining wall to limit incursion into the adjacent wetland, restoration and enhancement of disturbed areas, and enhancement of the north embankment to create better crossing opportunities for wildlife.
Schedule:
Site preparation is expected to start in 2026. Construction of the new bridge structure is tentatively scheduled to commence in 2027, and be completed in 2028, pending budget approvals.
How can you be heard?
As part of the project process, we are collecting feedback from the community to ensure the project is meeting the needs of the users of this corridor. We encourage you to provide your input and feedback through the "Provide Your Feedback" section found at the bottom of the page. Please know that we value your feedback, and though we will review and consider all input we receive, changes to the project based on community input will only be made where deemed feasible by the project team.
