Let's update the accessibility plan!

The City is developing a new five-year road map to help make Peterborough more accessible and welcoming for everyone. The plan will outline priorities to identify, remove and prevent barriers, so everyone can participate in the community.

How can you help?

Let us know what is needed to make Peterborough more accessible. If you are a person with a disability who lives, visits, studies or works in the City of Peterborough, or you care or advocate for someone with a disability, we want to learn about your experiences. Your feedback will help set priorities and clear goals for the next five years of accessibility planning in Peterborough.

Moving in the right direction

Snapshot accessibility planning in Peterborough over the last 10 years:

  • 2012: Focused on compliance with accessibility laws in Ontario.
  • 2013: Thought about accessibility at the start of every process.
  • 2014 to 2015: Moved from “think” about accessibility to “think-research-consult” about accessibility.
  • 2016 to 2017: Used an accessibility lens on everyday business.
  • 2018 to 2022: Fully incorporated an accessibility lens into new and updated policies, strategic plans, programs, services, facilities and infrastructure.

Accommodations

The City recognizes some people may not be able to use various online public engagement features. Contact the project team for an accommodation to access engagement tools such as the map or survey. It's important to receive feedback from people of all abilities to help shape the accessibility plan. We're happy to help.

Tell us about a barrier in Peterborough

over 1 year

Locate the barrier with a pin and provide a brief description.

Instructions to add a pin

  1. Open the map and zoom to the barrier you want to describe.
  2. Select the Add Pin (+) tool on the top left to view pin categories. 
  3. Drag a pin to the the map where you want to describe a barrier.
  4. Add a comment to describe the barrier and a photo if you have one.
  5. Add more pins!

How to edit a pin you added

  1. Select the pin you want to edit.
  2. Select the 3 stacked dots beside your name.
  3. Edit pin details. You can also move the pin to a new location.
  4. Select ‘Submit’ to save changes. 

Accommodations

The City recognizes the Map a barrier tool may not be accessible to everyone due to software limitations with pin labels, pin colours and the drag and drop function. You can contact the project team for an accommodation or send us a list of barriers you want added to the map. It's important to pin point barriers for people of all abilities to help shape the accessibility plan. We're happy to help.
